Overview
1756-OW16I is a 16-point isolated digital relay output module of the ControlLogix series. It contains 16 independent isolated normally open relay outputs. It is suitable for 10-240V AC, 5-125V DC wide voltage loads and adapts to different industrial load voltage requirements. The output current is different under different voltages, such as 1.5A@120V AC, 0.75A@240V AC, the minimum load current of each channel is 10mA, and the maximum leakage current of each channel in the off state is 1.5mA.
FAQ:
1.Do the 16 outputs of 1756-OW16I support normally closed contact mode? Can the default normally on be switched through software configuration?
The 16 outputs of 1756-OW16I do not support normally closed contact mode, and its default normally open contact state cannot be switched through software configuration:
- The hardware level is fixed to normally open contacts: This module is a relay output module, and the contact form of its 16 outputs is fixed to normally open (NO) in the hardware design, and each channel is individually isolated. This hardware structure determines that it does not have the physical wiring and switch structure corresponding to the normally closed contact, and naturally cannot realize the output function of the normally closed contact.
- The software has no configuration permissions for switching contact types: Rockwell’s official technical documentation shows that the module’s software configurable functions focus on electronic keying, output status in fault/programming mode (such as maintaining the last state, on or off, off by default), etc. These configurations are only for logical on-off control of the output, rather than changing the normally open physical properties of the contacts themselves. Software cannot rewrite the contact structure design at the hardware level, so it is impossible to switch normally open to normally closed through software.
2.What are the core differences (isolation, channel number, load capacity) between 1756-OW16I and the same series 1756-OX8I and 1756-OW16 (non-isolated version)?
| Part Number | Isolation design | Number of channels/contact type | Core load capacity |
| 1756-OW16I | Fully independent isolation between channels + backplane | 16 lines / normally open only | 5-125V DC/10-240V AC, 1.5A@120V AC/0.75A@240V AC, leakage current 1.5mA |
| 1756-OX8I | 2 points group isolation | 8 channels / normally open + normally closed | Same as 1756-OW16I (same voltage/current), leakage current 0mA |
| 1756-OW16(non-isolated version) | No quarantine | 16 lines / normally open only | 5-125V DC/5-265V AC (AC range is slightly wider), current is the same as OW16I, weak anti-interference |
3.With the 250V isolation voltage between output channels, will the 1756-OW16I be affected in high electromagnetic interference (EMI) environments?
1756-OW16I 250V isolation voltage is not affected in high EMI environments:
- The isolation is a hardware insulation design, which is different from the EMI interference dimension and has stable insulation performance;
- Built-in shielding/filtering circuit, passed industrial certification, strong anti-EMI ability;
- High EMI may cause signal logic problems and non-isolated voltage attenuation, which can be avoided through wiring optimization.
